Some requests for medical examinations require specialised equipment and cannot be carried out. The most common of these are employment medicals that require audiometric testing.

RESPIRATORY ANNUAL REVIEWS
Invites are issued once a year to all patients with Asthma using regular inhalers and those with COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)
It is important to attend your annual review even when you are feeling well so we can assess your lung condition and how well your medication is helping you at your baseline, not just when you are unwell.

THYROID ANNUAL REVIEWS
Invites are issued at least once a year to all patients with Thyroid problems who are currently taking thyroid replacement medication, including Levothyroxine.
It is important to attend your annual review even when you are feeling well so we can assess your thyroid condition and how well your medication is helping you at your baseline, not just when you are unwell. Having a blood level that is too high or too low can cause other health issues which are important to pick up and prevent, but don't always cause obvious symptoms.
Your appointment will be with one of our Healthcare Assistants and your check MAY include:
We will contact you if you need a change in medication dose or an earlier repeat test, but otherwise will not routinely contact you with your result, so please telephone the surgery a few days after your blood test for your results to confirm your result is back and normal.

Invites are issued once a year to all patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis whether currently on medication, or not.
It is important to attend your annual review even when you are feeling well so we can assess your general health as well as how well any medication is helping control your joint condition.
Please bring your monitoring sheets to your review appointment if you are on medication requiring regular blood testing.

EPILEPSY ANNUAL REVIEWS
Invites are issued once a year to all patients with Epilepsy over the age of 18 and currently receiving ant-epileptic medication.
It is important to attend your annual review even when you are feeling well so we can assess your epilepsy and general health when at your baseline, not just when you are unwell.

MENTAL HEALTH ANNUAL REVIEWS
Invitations to an annual health check-up with Alicia Miller our Advanced Nurse Practitioner, are issued to patients on long term medication for their mental health condition.
It is important to attend your annual review even when you are feeling well so we can review your overall general health.
Your check up may include:Blood tests, basic lifestyle checks including blood pressure, weight, etc and would like to check your smoking status and offer smoking cessation advice and Nicotine Replacement Therapy where appropriate. We will also review all of your medication and discuss any outstanding health needs that you have at that time.

If you are prescribed LITHIUM in addition to your annual health review, it is essential that you attend the practice on a 3 monthly basis for blood tests for your lithium monitoring.
The Chief Medical Officer also recommends that you have an ECG (a heart tracing) every 6 months. If you are due an ECG, this can be done at the same time as your quarterly blood test, so please mention this when booking your appointment. Your blood should be tested 12 hours after your last dose of Lithium the night before. Your results will be back in 1 week and you can phone the practice for these.
