COS LANE MEDICAL PRACTICE

MENTAL HEALTH ANNUAL REVIEWS

Invitations to an annual health check-up, are issued to patients on long term medication for their mental health condition.

It is important to attend your annual review even when you are feeling well so we can review your overall general health.

Your check up may include:Blood tests, basic lifestyle checks including blood pressure, weight, etc and would like to check your smoking status and offer smoking cessation advice and Nicotine Replacement Therapy where appropriate.  We will also review all of your medication and discuss any outstanding health needs that you have at that time.

If you are prescribed LITHIUM in addition to your annual health review, it is essential that you attend the practice on a 3 monthly basis for blood tests for your lithium monitoring.

The Chief Medical Officer also recommends that you have an ECG (a heart tracing) every 6 months.  If you are due an ECG, this can be done at the same time as your quarterly blood test, so please mention this when booking your appointment.  Your blood should be tested 12 hours after your last dose of Lithium the night before.  Your results will be back in 1 week and you can phone the practice for these.
